Desmond on Essen:
I recently attended the Essen Classic Car Show, which remains the largest of its type in Europe. There were hundreds of good quality cars on display with a fantastic support from manufactures; they are starting to wake up to the scale of the classic car market by displaying some heritage products and offering vast catalogues of heritage parts. The feel from European dealers at the show is that the market is very price and quality sensitive, although good quality examples that are priced correctly are still finding new homes quickly. However, there were some notable dealer omissions at the show, which reflect the slight uncertainty in the market due to the political climate.
Desmond on Events:
Following from Essen, we are now entering a busy Spring/Summer schedule of events both in Europe and the UK. Goodwood Members’ Meeting was a good motoring event as ever to kick-start the early season. I am also looking forward to the AMOC Spring Concours and Bonhams Aston Martin Sale; we have clients showing cars in the concours and it will be interesting to see how cars perform in the auction. Another event that I am looking forward to is the City Concours, which we will be attending with our partners Footman James. Having attended previous years, this is always a fantastic classic car event in the heart of the city.
