Sir Stirling Moss surprises Lady Susie with Aston Martin Cygnet
13 Jul 2011
A surprise birthday present for his wife, Lady Susie, Sir Stirling Moss took delivery of one of the first Aston Martin Cygnets at the Royal Automobile Club on July 12th. The result of six months of secret planning between Britain’s most famous racing driver and Aston Martin Lagonda, the car was on display in the central rotunda of the prestigious Pall Mall, London, building when the couple arrived for dinner.
Based on Toyota’s IQ and launched in May this year, the Cygnet, handcrafted at Aston Martin’s Gaydon, Warwickshire, headquarters, takes 150 hours to complete and, like all the company’s models, it can be personalised to individual requirements. Lady Susie’s example is appropriately painted in Aston Martin Racing Green, similar to the Works DB3Ss and DBR1s which Sir Stirling raced during the 1950s, while the luxurious interior is finished in Obsidian Black leather with coarse silver stitching.
Sir Stirling, who scored many superb wins for Aston Martin, including playing a major part in its victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours and the World Sportscar Championship in 1959, commented “My greatest partner in everything that I do, Susie is an amazing person and frankly the best wife a man could have. Since seeing a pre-production Cygnet in January I knew that it was the perfect car for Susie; a proper little piece of British luxury and perfect for our life in town.”
