Muscle Milk Lola-Aston Martin takes second American Le Mans Series victory at Mosport

26 Jul 2011

After dominating all the practice sessions and securing pole position in qualifying for the American Le Mans Series round at Mosport over the weekend of July 24th/ 25th, the California-based Muscle Milk Lola B08/62-Aston Martin of Lucas Luhr/Klaus Graf mirrored its performance at the Canadian track last year by again winning the race, its second victory this season.

It wasn’t all plain sailing, however. Having built up a huge lead of 54 seconds some 30 minutes into the two and three-quarter hour race, Lucas Luhr missed his designated first pit stop while the race was under yellow flags. The two lap delay before the Lola-Aston Martin was allowed to pit cost Muscle Milk the lead, after which the car rejoined half a minute behind the now leading Dyson Lola-B09/86 Mazda of Chris Dyson/Guy Smith. Such was the British car’s pace, though, that shortly before the race’s half way point it regained the lead, thereafter extending its advantage to win by over 28 seconds. Third place went to the similar Dyson Lola-Mazda of Humaid Al Masaood/Steven Kane.

The result means that, going into the next round at Mid-Ohio from August 5th to 6th, Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing now lies only 26 points adrift of Dyson Racing in the American Le Mans Series.
